MAP OF EASEDALE
This ink map depicts the landscape of the Grasmere Valley in the Lake District. It charts the route of a walk I have made every year with my family for over 20 years, starting in Grasmere, reaching Easedale Tarn, and descending through the valley. The map is a culmination of my memory, sketches made on site, and detailed OS maps, combining abstract shapes with more recognisable features of the landscape and the names of the mountains and rivers.
I create maps to illustrate an experience within a landscape, using mark-making to represent the natural patterns, textures, and shapes found in my surroundings. This map in particular has a real sense of sentimental value to me, as it visualises one of my favourite places in Britain.
